Campaigns

One of the most impactful ways to make a positive difference for animals and spark meaningful change is by supporting campaigns which aim to end animal exploitation.

Here some of the latest initiatives focused on helping animals:

Fish are also farmed, but their welfare is often overlooked because some mistakenly believe they can’t feel pain. Unfortunately, the law doesn’t go far enough to stop them from being killed in painful ways.

There are several effective ways you can help advocate for better treatment, such as signing petitions and reaching out to your local MP.

'Lives not Stock'

Animal Justice Project’s ‘Lives not Stock’ campaign highlights the distress and suffering caused to animals through live exports. Their animal transportation report, written by Dr Helen Lambert, outlines the physiological and mental health impacts that transport has on farmed pigs, cows, sheep and birds.

The ‘Pigs as Pets’ Problem

We have first-hand experience of just how many pigs end up at rescues when owners get out of their depth.

We aim to educate people on the complex requirements of pigs in our helpful article, and ask people to think twice about keeping pigs in their home or garden.

Stop chick hatching projects in schools

Unfortunately, many schools still engage in the questionable practice of hatching chicks in classrooms. This activity poses numerous issues: chicks need meticulous care and have specific welfare requirements that are challenging to meet in a classroom environment.

Animal Aid offers effective ways to take a stand against chick hatching in schools.

A hutch is not enough

Sadly, many owners still think it’s OK to keep rabbits and guinea pigs in cramped cold hutches. We’re proud to support the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund’s important ‘A Hutch Is Not Enough’ campaign.

“It takes NOTHING away from a human to be kind to an animal.”

Our advocacy work

We wish it were possible to provide a home to every animal in need. The lucky ones who come to live at Goodheart Farm Animal Sanctuary are ambassadors for the millions of animals who are not so lucky. We’ll be their voice, tell their stories, and use powerful case studies to campaign against practices such as:

  • Ewes destined to be culled because they are no longer suitable for breeding
  • Dairy cows slaughtered because they no longer produce enough milk
  • Male calves slaughtered at a young age as a ‘by-product’ of the dairy industry
  • Male chicks killed once hatched
  • Micro pigs abandoned as unwanted pets

Our approach

We believe in the power of impactful imagery and compelling information as essential tools for advocacy. However, our commitment lies in avoiding overly graphic or distressing content. While some animal charities effectively use such methods, our strategy centres on showcasing the positive aspects of rescue and rehabilitation. Through our Visitor Programme, we invite individuals to forge connections with our animals, recognising them as unique, sentient beings.

This inclusive approach has proven significantly effective in encouraging the public to reflect on their choices. By fostering empathy and understanding through personal interaction, we aim to demonstrate that farmed animals, like all living beings, deserve to live lives free from suffering.

Our message is one of hope and compassion, inspiring everyone to reconsider their impact on animals and embrace a more ethical approach to consumption and care.
