What is Free Wills Month?

Free Wills Month is an initiative that offers members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have their simple Wills written or updated free of charge by using participating solicitors in locations across England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

When is Free Wills Month?

Free Wills Month takes place twice a year – in March and October

How does Free Wills Month work?

During October and March, eligible individuals can contact the solicitors involved in the programme and request an appointment. At the appointment, a series of questions will be asked to customise the Will according to the individual’s preferences and circumstances. The dedicated solicitors will then draft the Will, reflecting the individual’s wishes accordingly.

Please note: Free Wills Month covers the writing of ‘simple’ Wills. If your Will is more complex or your estate exceeds £325,000 in value, you will typically be required to cover the costs of the service yourself.

How do I get involved in Free Wills Month?

Get started in a few simple steps:

  • Enter your details on the site to find participating solicitors near you. You can then contact them to make an appointment.

Given that Free Wills Month occurs only twice annually, it’s crucial to plan ahead. Appointments fill up rapidly but you can contact participating solicitors in advance of March and October to make an appointment.

Are there other initiatives for free Wills?

Although Free Wills Month is a great way to create a Will without the cost, you can write an online Will for free at any time, through the provider Bequeathed.

Bequeathed is an online Wills provider selected by Remember A Charity, which allows you to create your Will online for free. Founded by solicitors, this service offers a secure platform to draft your Will, enabling you to do so from the convenience of your home, at your own pace. You can save your progress and return to it whenever it suits you, ensuring a flexible and hassle-free experience.

Why leave a gift to charity in your Will?

Leaving a gift to charity in your Will is a profound and compassionate way to make a lasting impact on causes close to your heart. It ensures your values continue, supporting charitable initiatives even after you’re gone.

Leaving a gift to Goodheart Animal Sanctuaries can provide vital resources such as animal feed, vet cover, medicine as well as helping to further our work as a charity. By considering such a gift, you contribute to a legacy of kindness, helping us care for our existing residents as well as help more farm animals in need.
