We just became the very first Farm Animal Sanctuary in Europe to be GFAS verified!
On 10th February 2020, Goodheart Farm Animal Sanctuary was officially awarded Verified status by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). The organisation is the only one in the world providing globally recognised standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries.
Verification means that our sanctuary meets the criteria of a true farmed animal sanctuary and is providing humane and responsible care. To be awarded Verified status, an organisation must meet GFAS’s rigorous animal care standards and adhere to a demanding set of ethical and operational principles. Verification also provides a clear and trusted means for the public, donors and grantors to recognise Goodheart Animal Sanctuaries as an exceptional organisation.
“Founders, David Walker and Dwynwen Jones, established Goodheart Farm Animal Sanctuary in 2017 on 92 beautiful acres to provide a lifelong home to more than 300 animals including sheep, pigs, cows, goats and birds.
Under the exceptional leadership of Alison Hood, Goodheart’s team of professionals provides the highest quality of animal care to their residents as well engaging in several advocacy campaigns including; exposing cruelty and neglect in animal farming, promoting better legislation, and educating the public regarding the nature of these animals as sentient beings”.

Our verification was awarded as a result of a huge amount of hard work by our sanctuary team, and we are very proud to see our excellent standard of care recognised in this way. We are committed to providing better lives for rescued animals, and this accreditation reflects the integrity we uphold in all our work. We can only provide such a high quality of life for our animals thanks to our kind supporters.
