Congratulations on making it to Week Nine of our Animal Ambassador Challenge! This week we’re asking you to put your creative writing skills to the test all in the name of a good cause.

We’d like you to write either a short story or a poem about rescued farm animals. It’s up to you which you choose to write. Here are some top tips to make sure your creative writing is as immersive as possible:

  • Have a good understanding of farm animals – do some research on what they eat, how they behave, what they enjoy or dislike
  • Don’t be afraid to do something different – unexpected or out of the ordinary ideas are amazing!
  • Include interesting details about the setting or location – how warm is it? What can you smell? Can you feel the world around you?
  • Try to use metaphors or similes – these make complex ideas simple and relatable. Some examples include “her face was soft and rounded like a ball of dough” or “his feet were heavier than concrete. He did not want to enter that cave
  • Include emotion in your text – how do you want the reader to feel? You may want to build tension, happiness, or sadness to enrich the reading experience.

Please limit your writing to one page of text. Make sure to send your completed entries to along with your name by Friday 29th May. The winning entry will be shared on our social media pages so that all of our followers can enjoy it.

Good luck with this week’s Wicked Writer challenge!
