Advocacy work

In order to reach even more people with our message of kindness, we are working on expanding our campaigning activities.

We wish it were possible to provide a home to every animal in need. The lucky ones who come to live at Goodheart Farm Animal Sanctuary are ambassadors for the millions of animals who are not so lucky.

We’ll be their voice, tell their stories, and use powerful case studies to campaign against practices such as:

  • Ewes destined to be culled because they are no longer suitable for breeding
  • Dairy cows slaughtered because they no longer produce enough milk
  • Male calves slaughtered at a young age as a ‘by-product’ of the dairy industry
  • Male chicks killed once hatched
  • Micro pigs abandoned as unwanted pets

“Animals are not here for us to do as we please with. We are not their superiors, we are their equals. We are their family. Be kind to them.” – Ricky Gervais

Our approach

While powerful imagery and thought-provoking information are both valuable campaigning tools, we choose to steer clear of graphic imagery and disturbing content. Instead, we present well-researched and reliable information in a way which is accessible to everyone. We also like to focus on positive side of rescue and, through our school and public visitor programme, we allow people to build a rapport with the animals and see them as individual sentient beings.

With a hopeful approach and a message of compassion, we aim to show everyone that farmed animals, like all creatures, deserve to live free from harm.

Our Education & Outreach Programme

By providing reliable and balanced information in a fun, engaging way, we aim to help everyone think more clearly about the choices they make and the way we treat some animals. Through our Education & Outreach programme, we offer sanctuary and school visits, and multiple online learning opportunities for teachers, students, and anyone who would like to learn more about animals and the natural world.

Our campaign work

We’re proud to back the following campaigns:

End Factory Farming

Intensive systems which prioritise production above all else are not only damaging, but unsustainable too. Take a look at our run-down of the latest report on the impact of this industry.

Rescue work

Protect the UK's farm animal welfare standards

In their manifesto, the UK Government made a commitment not to do trade deal agreements that undermine the UK’s animal welfare standards. However, this does not seem to apply to future trade deals such as with Australia or the USA.

Ban Live Exports

The UK Government has announced an end to the live export of animals but we still have to make sure that this becomes law. Take action and email your MP to make sure they support the crucial Kept Animals Bill.

A Hutch is Not Enough campaign

A hutch is not enough

Sadly, many owners still think it’s OK to keep rabbits and guinea pigs in cramped cold hutches. We’re proud to support the RWAF’s important ‘A Hutch Is Not Enough’ campaign.

Know your labels

We’re proud to back Compassion in World Farming’s ‘Honest Labelling Campaign’ which sheds light on the misleading labels applied to meat and dairy products across our supermarkets.

The ‘Pigs as Pets’ Problem

We have first-hand experience of just how many pigs end up at rescues when owners get out of their depth. We aim to educate people on the complex requirements of pigs in our helpful article.
